Ok here is a little info for you. For those of you who where always wondering how internet advertising worked. I am going to tell you. I'm not doing this just because I like you. Even though you are probably a wonderful person. This will help me and the other millions of people that own websites also.

When you, or anyone else for that matter, visits a website lets say to ahhhhh  LOOK AT PORN.

You may notice all the banners and links that are linked to other websites. This is the meat and potatoes. If you are interested by what you see on that banner or link and you click on it things start to happen.

Don't worry, by doing this you have done a good thing!

The link takes you to another web site or page. In most cases what happens behind the scenes is this. That link that you clicked on contains a code that has harmless information about the website that had the banner on it. Don't worry it doesn't contain any info about you most of the time. That information allows the sponsor (the company or individual paying to have the banner or link posted on the other site) to know which site sent you there. This is how the owner of the original site location gets paid. The sponsor has the affiliate or partners (the person who owns the website with the banner on it) information stored somewhere. At this point if you decide you are going to purchase something from that site. The affiliate or partner gets paid a percentage of the sale. percentages vary from place to place and sponsor to sponsor.

There are other ways that this is done such as using a cookie to track the sale. This is being used less and less because some malicious individuals use cookies for tracking the customer (that's you). This scares some people. Because of this lots of companies and individuals have developed programs to block the use of cookies. Preventing the affiliates information from reaching the sponsor. These are profitable and have good function and use in the right scenario. Although most good business men and women don't put malicious code in their cookies. This is common sense most of the time. If you visit a website called I'm Going To Get You And Ruin Your Computer. There is a good chance any cookies placed on your computer are bad.

This is how you ( the surfer or customer) are able to see all this neat free stuff. You must keep in mind that most websites are hard to build and maintain. This one for example took hundreds of hours of work. It must also be updated frequently to keep things fresh and new. In many cases the website must pay for a host (A computer that contains the website within it somewhere), This adds up and can become expensive. Not to mention the numerous other fees that can be tacked on depending on the nature of the site.

So keep in mind, when you visit a site and don't purchase anything. Or you don't visit their sponsors. You may be contributing to the whole disassembly and destruction of the internet revenue process. And ultimately causing a loss of profit which leads to a breakdown of the whole financial system..............I'm just kidding! its not that bad.

Just please take the time to visit sponsors and give these webmasters the gratification they deserve. There is nothing better than knowing that something you created and built is doing well.
